On May 8th, the CloudStack European User Group (CSEUG) once again brought together open-source cloud professionals, contributors, developers, and users for a day of deep technical insights, knowledge sharing, and community connection—this time in the stunning city of Vienna, Austria.
Hosted at Quartier Belvedere Central, the 2025 edition of CSEUG marked another successful chapter in the long-standing tradition of European meetups, proudly sponsored by ShapeBlue, ProIO and LINBIT. This one-day event attracted participants from across Europe, all sharing a passion for Apache CloudStack and open-source cloud technologies.
A Day of Insightful Sessions and Practical Knowledge
The agenda featured a full spectrum of talks that catered to both newcomers and seasoned CloudStack users. The day kicked off with ShapeBlue’s CEO and Chairman of the CloudStack European User Group Giles Sirett (ShapeBlue) presenting Apache CloudStack 101 – What’s New and What’s Coming, giving an excellent overview of the platform’s core features, architecture, and roadmap.
Rene Peinthor from LINBIT followed with an in-depth look at storage architectures in Storage Setup for LINSTOR/DRBD/CloudStack, helping attendees understand different configurations and their impact on performance and resilience.
Brian Turnbow (CDLAN) shared real-world experience in I’d like to resell your CloudStack services, but…, exploring the complexities of onboarding white-label resellers into a CloudStack environment—a practical talk that resonated with many service providers in the room.
Swen Brüseke (ProIO) made a strong case for open-source sovereignty in his session Fully Open-Source Private Clouds: Freedom, Security, and Control, demonstrating how a fully open-source stack powered by CloudStack and LINBIT can deliver reliable, secure private clouds without vendor lock-in.
Francisco Arencibia (Jotelulu) gave a practical walkthrough in CloudStack + KVM: Your Local Cloud Lab, offering a hands-on approach to deploying a fully functional private cloud with KVM and Ansible—perfect for dev and test environments.
Gregoire Lamodiere and Joffrey Luangsaysana (DIMSI) introduced a Proposed Feature: Monitoring and Managing Cloud Usage Costs in Apache CloudStack, sparking valuable community discussion around native usage metrics and cost visibility.
Wido den Hollander (Your.Online) tackled the challenges of multi-datacenter environments in Stretching CloudStack over Multiple Datacenters, a topic of great interest for operators managing infrastructure at scale.
Finally, ShapeBlue’s QA Manager Boris Stoyanov (ShapeBlue) pushed the limits with CloudStack at 25K Hosts, sharing performance data, lessons learned, and code changes necessary to scale CloudStack to massive deployments.
A Strong, Growing Community
The energy throughout the day was amazing. With professionals attending from across the continent, the event was a true representation of the vibrant and collaborative European CloudStack community. From first-time attendees to long-time contributors and project committers, the sense of shared purpose was unmistakable.
