What is Apache CloudStack?

Apache CloudStack is a highly scalable IaaS cloud computing platform that provides a cloud orchestration layer, automating the creation, provisioning and configuration of IaaS components. It turns existing virtual infrastructure into a cloud-based Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform. Because CloudStack leverages existing infrastructure, the costs and time for the organisation to build a multi-tenant IaaS platform are greatly reduced. CloudStack is a turnkey solution for MSPs, cloud providers and telcos, and it supports integration with a wide range of hypervisors, storage providers, monitoring solutions and other technologies.

Apache CloudStack integrates radosgw via its Object Storage Plugin framework, introduced in version 4.18 and extended in version 4.20. This integration allows administrators to register Ceph RGW endpoints as Object Storage Pools.

Apache CloudStack integrates with MinIO via its Object Storage Plugin framework (introduced in version 4.18). This framework allows administrators to register MinIO as an Object Storage Pool, which tenants can then consume as a service.

Apache CloudStack provides an official plugin for VMware NSX (currently supporting NSX-T). This plugin allows administrators to define isolated networks in CloudStack which are then backed by NSX-managed logical switches and routers.

Netris integrates with Apache CloudStack via a native network plugin introduced in version 4.21. The plugin allows CloudStack administrators to manage L2/L3 networks, NAT, DHCP, ACLs, load balancing, and VPCs directly through the CloudStack interface — all orchestrated via Netris.

CloudStack Native Backup & Recovery is built into the CloudStack core platform. From version 4.20 onward, it includes the KVM with NAS B&R Plugin, which allows administrators to perform native, agentless full and incremental backups of KVM instances using a shared NAS (e.g., NFS) backend.
