On August 18th, ShapeBlue hosted an exclusive live webinar offering viewers a First Look at the upcoming Apache CloudStack 4.21 release. During the session, our panelists Ivet Petrova and Marco Sinhoreli walked the audience through the most significant new features, sharing live demos and explaining how these enhancements benefit operators and service providers alike.
The webinar covered key highlights such as the CloudStack XaaS Extensions Framework, CloudStack GPU as a First-Class Resource, Netris Integration for CloudStack Networking, Backup and Object Storage Limits, and Automatic Instance Deletion.
Here’s a closer look at the major new features:
CloudStack XaaS Extensions Framework
This new framework introduces native support for external provisioning and orchestration systems, enabling operators to integrate CloudStack with virtually any infrastructure or workflow engine.
CloudStack GPU as a First-Class Resource
CloudStack 4.21 introduces support for GPUs as a first-class resource, allowing administrators to expose dedicated or shared (vGPU) devices to virtual machines and Kubernetes (CKS) worker nodes.
Netris Integration for CloudStack Networking
Introduces native integration with Netris to enable full VPC, L2, and shared network orchestration in CloudStack, supporting advanced services such as routing, NAT, ACLs, and load balancing in KVM environments.
Backup and Object Storage Limits
Introduces backup usage limits and enforcement policies across accounts, domains, and projects to ensure fair consumption of backup and storage resources.
Automatic Instance Deletion
Service Providers and admins are now able to configure and mark user instances for automatic deletion after configured period X to utilise better compute resources.
