Hello all, my name is Jamie Pell. I am from the UK, but I am currently based in Phuket, Thailand. I joined ShapeBlue in March as a Marketing Specialist and have loved every minute of being part of this motivated, friendly and ambitious team.
I started my career in marketing by working as a Digital Marketing Intern at Bali International Film Festival. After this, I had worked in digital marketing for a natural health supplement company, Eudeamon, followed by setting up my own company Speak For Less.
I decided to pursue a career in marketing as I am passionate about sharing and promoting products and services that I truly believe in. Secondary to this, the digital shift that the marketing industry has undertaken is something that intrigued me from the beginning and is something that I am in interested to see progress. I believe the future for marketing for IT solutions/services is bound to become more and more competitive. Thus, encouraging marketing professionals like myself to work more strategically and creatively in order to stand out amongst competition.
Outside of work, I love sports, particularly MMA and rugby. I also have a more recent interest in meditation and cold-water therapy.
Joining ShapeBlue and the CloudStack community
Unlike the majority of the team at ShapeBlue, Apache CloudStack was new to me, which of course meant I have had to learn a lot about the open-source project. Being the grandson of one of the founders of open-forum Europe, I have a lot of enthusiasm to learn about the project and to contribute to the community.
Much of my contribution to the community has involved the organisation of this year’s hybrid CloudStack Collaboration Conference that took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, as well as the CloudStack European User Group earlier this year.
Separate to conference preparation, much of my work at ShapeBlue has involved: supporting the company blog, working on brand campaigns and initiatives, supporting the company’s social media channels, working with the technical team on the creation of content, as well as working with external agencies to support our initiatives.
Working Remotely and the Flexibility ShapeBlue Offers
I joined ShapeBlue whilst working in London. However, my girlfriend and I have had a keen desire to live and work in Southeast Asia for some years now. After dedicating myself to the position and the company, I raised my interest to the senior management. I was pleased to find out that the company supported me, which I believe is a great example of the company’s work culture and commitment to its employees.
So far, it has been a fantastic first 9 months at ShapeBlue. I am learning new things to do with marketing and Apache CloudStack every day, and I feel fully supported by the company in my career and personal progression.
Jamie had been involved in marketing for 3 years prior to joining the company. He is heavily involved in the marketing activities for both ShapeBlue and Apache CloudStack. In his free time, Jamie likes training MMA and rugby.
